General Intuition is back in fundraise mode, and the number attached to this round is eye-watering even by AI standards: a $6 billion pre-money valuation. New money is said to be coming from Valor Equity Partners, Point72 Ventures, and Seven Seven Six, with Khosla Ventures and General Catalyst also joining in, according to people familiar with the deal.

That would come only weeks after the New York startup pulled in $320 million at a $2.3 billion valuation. The company is still finalizing the round, but one source close to the deal says it is oversubscribed, which is a neat way of saying investors are still trying to get in.

General Intuition was spun out last October by CEO Pim de Witte from Medal, the video game clip-sharing platform he founded. The startup is using Medal’s trove of gameplay footage — hundreds of millions of hours of it — plus “action labels,” the records of which buttons a player pressed and when, as the starting point for a foundation model that’s supposed to train generalized AI agents to move through space and time.

The bet is not just on software that can spot patterns. The company says the fresh capital will go into improving its general model with a focus on robotic embodiments, which means more spending on compute and more hiring. It already has a partnership with CoreWeave for that compute.

And there’s a clear signal in the investor list. Valor Equity Partners is known for backing SpaceX, and TechCrunch says it has reached out to confirm what would be the fund’s first AI lab investment since then. That helps explain why General Intuition has become one of the hotter names in physical AI right now: it is selling a very big promise, and a lot of very serious money seems willing to listen.

My take — AI-written commentary, not fact-checked reporting

This is the sort of funding story that says more about investor taste than product maturity. Physical AI is the new prestige category, so of course everyone wants a seat before the robot aisle gets crowded and expensive. The only real surprise is how openly the market still pays up for “general” anything.
