Trump now says he wants to form an ‘AI Force’

Donald Trump says he wants to appoint an “AI czar” to lead a new “AI force.” He made the pitch on Truth Social, and the tone was pure promotion: his administration, he said, would not “hinder or stifle” the growth of the AI industry, but would “cherish it, help it, and watch over it.”

The timing matters. The post landed while calls to put the brakes on AI development are getting louder, including from across the political spectrum and from inside the industry itself. That puts Trump’s message on the other side of a growing debate: not whether AI should keep moving, but who gets to decide how fast.

The post also had a familiar Trump flourish. He described data centers as “wealthy and prestigious” and claimed they raise salaries, lower taxes, and make streets safer in the communities where they’re built. He offered no evidence for those claims in the post.

So the substance here is less a policy rollout than a signal. Trump is presenting AI as something to be embraced and managed, not constrained. The wording suggests he wants a visible champion for the technology, and he wants that champion to sound like a booster, not a regulator.
