AI agents are moving from novelty to billing, and the business friction is showing. Meta’s Muse, pitched as a consumer “personal agent,” drew more than 500,000 users in its first week, but turning that attention into revenue runs into the marketplace’s guardrails. Meta says Muse will eventually take a small transaction fee from the purchases it completes—after a free tier that includes 100 million tokens per week. Amazon, meanwhile, blocked Muse from shopping on its site within two weeks of launch, effectively forcing Meta to lean harder on retailer partnerships while it figures out what “agent take rate” it can enforce.
