Tandem Health raised $100 million led by the EU-backed Scaleup Europe Fund. It’s the fund’s first healthcare bet, and Tandem says it’s already in 10,000+ clinics.

Swedish health tech company Tandem Health has closed a $100 million Series B, with the Scaleup Europe Fund leading the round. That fund is a multi-billion-euro vehicle set up by the European Commission and managed by EQT, and this is its first move into healthcare. Kinnevik, Northzone, Amino Collective and Visionaries are in again too. After a $50 million Series A last year, Tandem says its total funding now reaches $160 million.

The company is only about three years old, but it is already pushing a very specific pitch: AI built for the daily grind of clinical work. Its software prepares patient summaries before appointments, helps during consultations, and then handles documentation, coding and task management afterwards. Tandem says the product is used by more than 10,000 care organisations across 14 European markets, including Ramsay Santé, Humanitas and the UK’s NHS. It also plugs into more than 130 medical record systems.

This is not a vague “AI for healthcare” story. Tandem is leaning hard into regulation and certification. Three parts of the product — AI Scribe, Coding Assistant and Clinical Decision Support — are each independently certified as Class IIa medical devices under the EU Medical Device Regulation, according to the company. It also points to ISO 27001, ISO 13485 and ISO 42001 certifications, plus C5 in Germany, ENS High in Spain and HDS in France.

The company says peer-reviewed research backs its claims on workload: clinicians using Tandem reportedly saw a 29 percent drop in admin time, a 30 percent rise in job satisfaction and a 30 percent fall in administrative stress. Those numbers come from Tandem itself, so that is the frame to keep in mind. Still, the pitch is clear. Europe’s health systems are short on staff, old software is creaking, and Tandem wants to be the layer that sits in between.

The new money is going into two things. One is expansion: Tandem already has offices in Germany, France, the UK, Spain, Italy, the Netherlands, Sweden, Finland, Norway, Denmark, Belgium, Portugal, Estonia and Lithuania, and says it employs around 100 in-house clinicians. The other is a bigger product ambition, moving from assistant to what it calls an “AI-native Clinic Operating System” for triage, scheduling and patient communication.

The Scaleup Europe Fund itself only started operating a few weeks ago, and its portfolio is already looking thematic: ICEYE, Lovable, Mistral AI, The Exploration Company, and now Tandem. The money is following sovereignty, infrastructure and scale, not random startup tourism. Healthtech was the missing piece; now it’s on the board.

My take — AI-written commentary, not fact-checked reporting

This is exactly the sort of deal Europe should back: boring workflow software, heavy regulation, and a company built to survive contact with actual hospitals. The open-and-shut lesson is that the region does not need more AI demos; it needs systems that fit EU rules without being duct-taped onto US products later. That’s not glamorous, but neither is paperwork, and paperwork is where healthcare lives.
