Sen. Adam Schiff on AI regulation, free speech, and impeaching Trump one more time

Senator Adam Schiff discussed how the Trump administration’s voluntary AI pledge by tech executives contrasts with his view that AI requires stronger, enforceable regulation and oversight. He said the Supreme Court’s overturning of the Reagan-era Chevron deference via the Loper Bright case could make new AI agency rules get tied up in immediate litigation. As a result, Schiff supports creating a dedicated AI regulatory agency while pushing for a “start at the beginning, end at the end” approach covering model inputs, outputs, transparency, and related IP and antitrust questions.
