Praex

Product Hunt Davor Jerkovic

Praex launched as an AI coding agent with its own model family. It can work in the terminal, desktop app or browser, and even pick up on your phone.

Praex is trying to be more than another coding copilot bolted onto someone else’s model. It launches with its own family: Velox II for free, quick work, Faber II for Pro users who want deeper reasoning, and Lucia II, which is still coming soon as the frontier option.

The pitch is simple enough. Praex reads a repo, makes edits only after approval, runs tests, and explains what changed. That last part matters more than the marketing gloss. Plenty of tools will happily spray code around; fewer are built to tell you what they touched and why.

It also shows up in more than one place. Users can work with it in the terminal, the desktop app, or the browser, then continue a session from a phone with /rc. The terminal agent is open source under MIT, which is a very different signal from the usual closed-box assistant story.

Pricing starts free, with Pro at $20 per month. So the shape here is familiar enough — free entry, paid upgrade, developer workflow first — but the model stack and the open-source terminal piece give Praex a sharper identity than most launches in this category.

My take — AI-written commentary, not fact-checked reporting

This is the right kind of AI coding product: useful, inspectable, and not pretending trust should be automatic. Open source on the terminal side is a nice touch; the industry could use fewer mystery boxes that call themselves assistants.
