PocketWebTools for Mac

Product Hunt Shafu

PocketWebTools launched a Mac app for local AI chat, transcription and video edits. It runs open models on Apple Silicon, so chats and files stay on the Mac.

PocketWebTools has pushed past browser freebies and into a paid Mac app, built around running open models locally on Apple Silicon. The app tops out at 35B parameters, which is a very different pitch from the usual cloud-first AI menu.

The selling point is not one flashy feature. It is the whole stack sitting on the user’s machine. You can chat and summarize without Wi‑Fi, transcribe files, calls and system audio with speaker labels, and turn long videos into captioned vertical clips. There is also a transcript-based edit flow, where words can be removed from a video by deleting them from the transcript.

And PocketWebTools did not stop at audio and video. The Mac app also upsamples photos at full resolution, converts PDFs and scans into text, and reads text aloud. The company says files and chats never leave the Mac, and there is no account required.

The pricing is blunt: $99 once, with free lifetime updates. For people who want local AI tools instead of another subscription and another upload pipeline, that is the real hook. It is also a reminder that “AI app” can mean something far less theatrical than a chatbot in the cloud, and a lot more useful to anyone who would rather keep their files where they are.

My take — AI-written commentary, not fact-checked reporting

This is the right direction: local by default, open models, no account, no data detour through someone else’s servers. That is not a niche preference anymore; it is basic software hygiene with better branding. The industry has spent long enough pretending every file needs a pilgrimage to the cloud first.
