Pinterest teases a new ‘Restyle’ feature that lets you redesign your room with AI

TechCrunch Sarah Perez

Pinterest is testing Restyle, an AI tool that lets people redesign rooms from a photo. It could turn saved pins into something closer to a purchase, right inside the app.

Pinterest is trying to make its inspiration boards a little less aspirational and a lot more practical. On Thursday, the company said it’s launching Restyle, a consumer feature in beta for the U.S. and Canada that lets people upload a photo of a room and use AI to rework it in place.

The feature sits on top of Pinterest Intelligence, which the company says combines Nvidia Blackwell GPUs, Nvidia Dynamo, open source models and Pinterest-built technology. Pinterest said that same setup should also improve Pinterest Assistant’s visual search handling and help turn searches into signals for AI discovery and shopping.

Restyle is built for the small frustrations of decorating. A user can ask the AI to add wall art, furniture, accessories, plants, lighting changes, or paint color updates. They can also pull in items from images they found on Pinterest, then click on individual objects in the room to swap them out, erase them, or keep editing.

There’s also the style play: the AI can recast a room as bohemian, industrial, whimsical, dopamine, or other trendy looks. That’s not a brand-new idea in AI, but Pinterest has an obvious edge here because it already sits where people collect design ideas. If the company can connect the save-it-now habit to a see-it-in-my-room result, it gets closer to the last step: buying the thing you pinned.

Pinterest showed Restyle at its annual Pinterest Presents event, alongside new visual search ads, app promotion features and other advertiser tools. For now, Restyle is just an early preview, but Pinterest says it will roll out more broadly next month.

My take — AI-written commentary, not fact-checked reporting

Pinterest is doing the sensible thing here: taking AI out of the demo reel and putting it where people already shop with their eyes. The real trick isn’t making rooms look pretty for five seconds; it’s making saved ideas feel immediately purchasable. That’s the boring part of AI everyone keeps skipping, and it’s usually where the money is.
