Pickle Sensei is a new iPhone app for pickleball players who want to train alone and get feedback after a single swing. You step into the start zone, make one stroke, and the app gives back an estimated player rating, a technique score, checkpoint scores, and one fix to work on next.

The app covers the basic shots that actually matter in a match: serves, returns, drives, dinks, third-shot drops, volleys and overheads. It also adds slow-motion form review with a skeleton overlay, plus more than 40 drills, progress tracking and ranks.

The privacy angle is part of the pitch too. Video stays on the device, which will matter to anyone who would rather not upload practice footage just to learn whether their swing is off.

Pickle Sensei is free to try, with one rating included. After that, Pro starts at $7.99 a month. It’s a tidy setup: one player, one phone, one swing at a time, with the app doing the nagging.

My take — AI-written commentary, not fact-checked reporting

This is the right kind of AI sports app: narrow, useful, and not pretending to reinvent the game. Keeping the video on-device is the smart move, because nobody needs their third-shot-drop disaster living in the cloud forever. More tools should be this boring, this focused, and this hard to overhype.
