The biggest AI story today wasn’t about a new model’s benchmark; it was about who pays for the electricity. Anthropic has agreed to a seven-year, $11.6 billion cloud deal with Akamai, with an unusual ramp that starts at essentially zero Akamai revenue in 2025 and then projects just $150 million to $300 million in 2027. Akamai is also committing roughly $5.5 billion to build capacity, and the agreement includes a warrant tied to Anthropic’s future cloud spend, with the whole thing expandable toward about $20 billion or able to unwind under certain conditions. It’s a reminder that “frontier” is only half the story—infra economics are the other half.
