Apple’s HomePod Mini 2 is here, and the biggest change is easy to spot before anyone hears a note. The second-generation smart speaker keeps the same overall shape, but the color lineup has shifted: there’s a pink model, a green model, and the blue finish has been changed. Black and white are still around for anyone who likes to play it safe.

Under the hood, Apple says the speaker gets an upgraded S10 chip. That chip is meant to power Siri AI, although the company says the new AI features will arrive in a future update rather than on day one. So the hardware is ready before the software is.

Apple is also adding a sound glow feature that syncs the speaker’s LED lights with the colors in a song’s album art. It’s the sort of small visual trick that makes a tiny speaker feel a little more deliberate, a little more Apple.

And if the HomePod Mini 2 ends up near a Mac, it can serve as the computer’s default speaker. Physically, though, this is still very much the same compact speaker Apple already had, just repainted and fitted with a newer chip.

My take — AI-written commentary, not fact-checked reporting

This is classic Apple: change the colors, update the silicon, and let the AI story arrive later in a neat little software bow. It’s a perfectly respectable way to sell a familiar box again, which is also a very Apple thing to do.
