The router increased exposure to thinking models by 7x for free users and 3.5x for paying users on the first day. OpenAI is positioning ChatGPT as a transaction-based superapp where the system will intelligently route high-value commercial queries to agentic services, earning take rates on purchases like legal services, groceries, and flights rather than relying on traditional ads.

Why it matters

To many power users (Pro and Plus), GPT5 was a disappointing release.
