Grokipedia arrived with a lot of Musk-sized promises. When xAI launched version 0.1 in October, the site rolled out with 885,000 AI-generated articles, and Musk framed it as something that would leave Wikipedia in the dust. By November, version 0.2 pushed the total count past six million entries, according to the site's own live page. Numbers like that suggest a project moving fast.
Except it isn't moving at all, according to a new report from Lawfare. The outlet says it can't find a single article that's changed since April 24th, and its "Recent changes" section now just displays a flat notice: no live edits available. That's a strange thing for an encyclopedia to say about itself, especially one built to be a living, AI-refreshed alternative to human-edited Wikipedia.
Users can still submit new articles and suggest edits, at least in theory. But Lawfare dug into that machinery too, examining over 34,000 pages that had at least one suggested edit sitting in the queue. Across more than 225,000 total suggested corrections, the report found none accepted or rejected in the past three months. Whatever review process is supposed to be running behind the scenes, it doesn't appear to be running.
xAI hasn't responded to requests for comment, and Musk hasn't mentioned Grokipedia on X since February. That silence has left people on Reddit and X speculating openly about whether the project is quietly dead, even as the site keeps advertising millions of articles and an open invitation to suggest more.
