Claude Code just picked up AGENTS.md support, a small change with a big compatibility payoff. In any project that doesn’t have a CLAUDE.md file, Claude Code will now read AGENTS.md instead. Users can change that behavior under Project instructions in /config, though not yet on Bedrock, Vertex, or Foundry.
That matters because AGENTS.md is already becoming a shared convention across AI coding tools. Instead of asking teams to duplicate the same instructions in yet another file, Claude Code can now meet them where they are.
