amber has raised €7 million in Series A funding to grow across Europe and keep building its AI platform for small and medium-sized businesses. The round was co-led by existing investor Ventech and NRW.Venture, the venture capital fund of NRW.BANK.
The Aachen-based company was founded by Bastian Maiworm, Philipp Reissel and Igli Manaj. Its pitch is straightforward: help businesses make use of knowledge that is already inside the company, but spread across emails, documents, cloud apps and internal systems.
That problem gets sharper once generative AI enters the picture. If the underlying data is scattered, the model has a thin view of the business. Amber says that also matters when experienced employees leave or retire, taking a lot of know-how with them.
At the center of the platform is what amber calls its AI Data Layer. It builds a unified view of information across enterprise systems before large language models are applied, with the aim of giving those models better context and trimming the amount of unstructured material they need to chew through. The result, the company says, is more accurate answers and insights.
Amber says employees can use the platform to find information that would otherwise mean digging through files and internal systems. It also wants to support onboarding, preserve knowledge and automate knowledge-heavy workflows. The new cash will go toward broader European expansion, starting with Benelux, as well as deeper integrations and more work on making the platform act less like a tool people ask and more like a system that can identify and execute tasks on its own.
My take — AI-written commentary, not fact-checked reporting
Enterprise AI still falls over the moment it meets a company’s actual files, so amber is aiming at the right mess. The real competition isn’t another chatbot; it’s the graveyard of half-buried knowledge in every SME. If the platform can make that useful without turning into another integration tax, that’s a business, not a demo.
