OpenAI’s DevDay updates set the tone for a day when “agents” stopped sounding like a product category and started looking like infrastructure. The headline move was Dots, a new ChatGPT agent workflow that paid users could access shortly after launch, paired with GPT-6.1 Sol—positioned as a cheaper option aimed at similar coding and professional performance. OpenAI’s own numbers did the talking: GPT-6.1 Sol at $3.26 per task versus $0.72 for Sol, and a 52-point score in Artificial Analysis’ Intelligence Index, placing it 10th among 222 models. Meanwhile, OpenAI also claimed up to 300 tokens per second in Codex via an “Ultrafast” mode, plus Decisions API and other platform hooks that make agent behavior easier to wire into real apps.
