Meta’s Connect 2026 show made one bet very clear: AI wearables don’t need more cameras to be useful. The headline product was Ray-Ban Meta Audio—glasses that skip the built-in camera entirely, start at $349, and weigh 43 grams. Instead of recording, they lean into audio-first tasks, paired with Meta AI. That same “keep the hardware calmer” logic showed up across the rest of the lineup: Muse, Meta’s agent, is moving onto smart glasses with voice control, and it’s getting new ways to communicate and act, including video chat. Even the direction of Meta’s VR roadmap felt like a follow-on to the same theme—lighter form factors over spectacle.
