A group of UK peers has tabled an amendment to the Cyber Security and Resilience Bill seeking to give the government powers to deactivate powerful AI systems and, in extreme cases, shut down national data centres during national security threats. The proposal is being considered in Parliament alongside plans for a separate UK AI Security Bill scheduled for 8 September, with both measures requiring government approval to proceed.
