Google launches AI-powered urban flash flood forecasting service using Gemini-extracted news data

Feature update Provisional 92% confidence first seen

Google introduced an AI system that extracts flood event data from global news reports using Gemini to create a dataset of 2.6 million historical flood records across 150+ countries. The company deployed this data to power Urban Flash Flood forecasts on its Flood Hub service, enabling 24-hour advance predictions of flash flood risk in urban areas at 20x20 kilometer resolution using weather data from NASA and NOAA.
