Google DeepMind released ForestCast, a deep learning model that predicts deforestation risk using satellite imagery at 30-meter resolution, along with two complementary tools: a species range mapping system for over 2 million known species and an updated bioacoustic classifier called Perch 2.0. The deforestation model was trained on historical satellite data from 2000-2024 and achieves accuracy matching or exceeding previous approaches, with the tools made publicly available to support governments and conservation organizations.
