Learn Your Way: Reimagining textbooks with generative AI

Google introduced Learn Your Way, a research experiment using generative AI to transform static textbooks into personalized, multi-format learning materials adapted to individual students' grade levels and interests. In a study of 60 high school students, those using Learn Your Way scored 11 percentage points higher on retention tests 3-5 days after learning compared to those using a standard digital reader. The tool enables students to engage with content through multiple representations—including personalized text, slides with narration, audio lessons, and mind maps—giving them agency over their learning approach.
