Standard Setting
AI Act 3 years ago
The European Commission requested standards for the EU AI Act's high-risk provisions in 2021, with two standardisation organisations, CEN and CENELEC, tasked through their joint committee CEN/CENELEC JTC21 to draft these standards. The drafting process involves six steps from formal request through publication and is currently behind schedule, with different standards at different stages. Companies demonstrating compliance with these harmonized standards will receive a presumption of conformity with EU safety regulations, though compliance remains voluntary and providers may instead independently interpret the legal text.
