An Introduction to the Code of Practice for General-Purpose AI
AI Act 2 years ago
The EU AI Office published a Code of Practice in July 2025 for general-purpose AI model providers to demonstrate compliance with the AI Act during the interim period before formal European standards take effect. The Code includes three chapters covering transparency and copyright for all GPAI providers, plus a safety and security chapter for providers of models trained above 10^25 floating point operations, with 12 total commitments and corresponding measures. GPAI model providers who adhere to the Code can show compliance with AI Act obligations until harmonized standards are adopted, while those who do not must demonstrate compliance through other means to the Commission.
