The Boston Dynamics spinout building robots you’ll actually want to hug
Fortune Allie Garfinkle
Dynamic Creatures, a Boston Dynamics spinout cofounded by Marc Theermann, is building companion robots including Danielle on the Spot platform and a second prototype dubbed Hugo. Venture backers have not disclosed how much funding the company raised, but robotics and physical AI startups pulled in a record $18.6 billion over Q2 2026, according to PitchBook. As a result, the startup is positioning robots as cartoonish, interactive characters for places like schools and theme parks rather than industrial-looking humanoids.
Why it matters
Dynamic Creatures, the startup former Boston Dynamics executive Marc Theermann just cofounded with noted AI researcher Farbod Farshidian, is out of stealth.
