AI governance took the spotlight, not because everyone suddenly hates chatbots, but because the industry is trying to prevent two very human failures: deception and loss of control. Microsoft rolled out a new AI code of conduct that sets “absolute constraints” for its models, explicitly banning cyberattacks, deepfake production, and work on nuclear weapons, while insisting that a model-wide directive overrides whatever a user asks for. Mustafa Suleyman also urged top labs to coordinate on safety, framing the push around human primacy and third-party transparency—an attempt to make alignment less of a vibes-based promise and more of an engineering artifact.
