Anthropic's newest model, Claude Mythos 5, tops every benchmark that matters right now: coding, cybersecurity, reasoning, biology, vision. On paper it beats Opus 4.8 and everything OpenAI has shipped publicly. But almost nobody outside enterprise labs and serious power users will ever touch it directly. What regular subscribers get is Claude Fable 5, the same underlying weights wrapped in safety classifiers that quietly downgrade or block certain responses.

Here's the catch that matters for anyone paying $20 or even $130 a month: Fable 5 is free on Pro and Max plans only through June 22, then it disappears from those tiers and becomes credits-only until Anthropic scales up capacity.
