Apple’s next Siri architecture looks built for a lot more than Apple’s own model. Code found in private iOS 27 and macOS Golden Gate frameworks shows an internal system that can route requests to third-party AI models, and in one case even hand Siri’s own server-side role over to another model entirely.
The first piece is called Model Delegation. In a demo video shared by code sleuth pdfu, Claude shows up as a Siri extension much like Apple’s existing ChatGPT extension. A user opens the “Search or Ask” bar, picks Claude from an “Ask...” menu, and then tells Siri to “Ask Claude” to set a reminder. Claude interprets the request, Siri handles the Reminders action, and the model appears to pass the job back whenever Apple system access is needed.
That setup is already more capable than a simple chatbot plug-in. In another example, Claude is used inside a Siri conversation window to create a CSV file, which Siri itself can’t do. Claude returns the file successfully. But the more striking demo goes further still: an inference provider in “Model Manager Services” appears to let Apple’s own Siri model be replaced outright by another model, such as GPT-5.6.
In that flow, ChatGPT receives Apple’s Siri planner prompt and tool definitions, makes system-action requests, gets back personal data, and then produces the answer Siri presents in its own voice and interface. The demo shows the model being used to find emails about a topic, summarize them, pull out action points, and send a message through Messages. For now, this is still under the hood. The “Ask...” menu is only available to the ChatGPT extension in the macOS 27 Golden Gate Release Candidate, Claude is not yet available there, and Apple has not opened the model delegation entitlement to third parties or exposed it to users. But the plumbing is already there, and it points to a Siri that may be less a single assistant than a switchboard for other companies’ models.
