Amazon’s AI Resurgence: AWS & Anthropic’s Multi-Gigawatt Trainium Expansion

Amazon is building over 1.3 gigawatts of datacenter capacity in partnership with Anthropic, primarily using its custom Trainium2 chips instead of Nvidia GPUs, to power Anthropic's reinforcement learning training workloads. Anthropic's revenue grew from $1B to $5B annualized in 2025, and the company is committing tens of billions to this multi-year infrastructure deal with AWS. This partnership is expected to accelerate AWS cloud growth above 20% year-over-year by the end of 2025, reversing the company's recent underperformance in AI compared to Microsoft Azure and Google Cloud.
